COMEDY 101: Introduction to Stand-Up Comedy

StandUpClasses.com is a bi-monthly class in stand-up comedy for brand new to relatively new comedians.

If you ever thought you were funny, you are absolutely correct! Everyone is funny, it is just a matter of helping you find your funny! This introductory comedy workshop explains exactly what we mean: being "funny" is not a special ability of gifted people, it's a skill that can be taught to anyone.  Please understand, nobody can teach you how to be a comedian.  This classes teaches you the basics of writing and performing jokes, then you learn how to be a comedian by going out and doing stand-up comedy.  We like to compare learning stand-up is like learning golf.  You can have all the lessons in the world, which will help you improve, but you only improve if you go out and do it!

How Long Is The Course

The comedy class is five weeks long with the fifthe week graduating on stage at The Laughing Skull Lounge!

Who Teaches The Classes?
Theses classes are taught Kenney Johnson (aka Big Kenny) who is a seasoned comedian and improv performer. Big Kenney has been doing comedy and improv for over 10 years each and currently headlines clubs and colleges all over the country while also entertaining our troops all over the world. He is a regular at all the comedy clubs so you might have seen him performing on our stage as a comedian or as part of Black Top Circus... the only all African-American improv troupe in the country.

 

The Business of Comedy
Learn some of the "behind the scenes" of the comedy business with Marshall Chiles: a professional international comedian wo is also the owner of The Laughing Skull Lounge, The Funny Farm Comedy Club, creator and producer of Laughing Skull Comedy Festival, and much more. Marshall holds a class based solely on learning how to go from open mic, to MC, to feature to headliner.  He also informs you on various aspects of other parts of the comedy business.  This information is highly valuable if you want to make a go of being a professional comedian.
